| PAT O'KANE PAT O'KANE - Was born in Limerick, Ireland, March 17, 1828, and when fourteen years of age accompanied his parents to the United States. In the summer of 1847 he settled at Ottawa, La Salle county, Illinois, but in 1849, owing to illness he was compelled to seek health in St. Louis. Here he resided until the fall of 1852, when he removed to New Orleans, but owing to yellow fever being epidemic there, in 1853, he took up his residence in Naples, Illinois. In the fall of that year Mr. O'Kane found himself once more in St. Louis and New Orleans, but only for a short time. In June, 1854, he left via the plains fo California, and arriving in San Francisco at the end of July, there he remained until October 5, 1857, when he sailed for Portland, Oregon, on board the "Republic," but being delayed by the vessel going aground in the Columbia, in the vicinity of Vancouver - ocean steamers calling at that city in those days - he was transferred to the old "Multnomah" and landed at his destination. Save four months passed in Salem, our subject was a resident of Portland until 1859, when he came to Vancouver, where he has since permanently resided. Is married to Hannah McGrath, of Limerick, Ireland, and has four children, viz: James T., Frank P., Mary A., and Lizzie. Alley, B. F. and Munro-Fraser, J. P.
